The roundhill site off Cliffe Lane in Gomersal was reputed to be a sacred place to early settlers in the area before it was a mill. There is a legend of a demonic spirit which guards this site and appears as a haunting light at night time and is a harbinger of one's fathers death. The name of this spirit is the Scrayte, suggesting it is Norse in origin. Rounshill sites have often been associated with aincient burial or historical sacrificial sites. Cliffe Lane was called Scratt Lane in the distant past, "scratt" been a nickname for the devil.
