Description

Established in early 19th century as water-powered worsted-spinning mill. Early timber-floored mill (six storeys, eleven bays) survives, showing use of two waterwheels. Mill owned by manufacturer performing hand-powered processes (combing and weaving) off the premises. Rapid expansion after c1850, with addition of new mill (five storeys and attic, nine bays), combing and weaving sheds and warehouses. Steam power added to supplement waterwheels. After. 1860 mill functioned as fully integrated worsted factory.
