Description

Steam-powered fireproof cotton-spinning mill designed by Stott and Sons of Manchester for Hare Spinning Company Ltd and renamed Mons Mill in 1914 on takeover by Mons Mill Company Ltd. Intended as double mill powered from central power source, but only first half, started 1907, completed in 1911 and opened 1912, of seven storeys and basement, thirty-eight by eighteen bays, completed. Contemporary detached office block with Byzantine detailing originally echoed by top of stair tower of mill. Minor later additions. Associated buildings: adjacent workers' housing. Limited demolition.
