Built beside River Nidd and from c1847, under Walton family, became principal textile mill in Knaresborough. Originally a corn mill, from 1770 a paper mill, from 1791 a cotton-spinning mill, and from c1815 a flax mill, initially for spinning, from late 1840s also for weaving, and from 1860s just linen weaving. Paper mill of three storeys, seven bays by three; attached two-storeyed eleven-bay flax-spinning mill. Adjacent buildings included late 18th and early 19th-century cottages converted to textile use, and warehouse largely rebuilt in 1879. Site water powered until supplementary steam engine added c1850. From c1860, Walton and Co used Crimple Mill, Scriven with Tentergate (demolished), as their bleachworks and dyeworks. Largely rebuilt.
