Description

Water-powered flax-spinning mill of two storeys and six bays built c1804-5 close to hamlet of Shaw Mills. Heightened by one storey and extended by three bays before 1848-9. Converted to silk spinning by 1871. Associated buildings: millowner's house and terraces of cottages.

My ancestors: Holmes and Dinsdale lived and worked in Shaw Mills, Not quite sure whether they worked at the High Mill or Low Mill. John William Holmes was born at Shaw Mills in 1860 and was Christened at Pateley Bridge in same year,
