Yorkshire > West Yorkshire > Bradford > Zetland Mill
Steam-powered worsted mill built 1850-1. Complex comprised a double mill of thirty-six bays with centrally sited Internal engine house, nearby boiler house, chimney and minor outbuildings. Mill extremely large on plan but of only two storeys with an attic and part basement. Fireproof brick vaults used over basement and ground floors, but flitched timber beams and joists over first floor. Breadth of mill required three rows of columns to support floors and double-span roof with arched cast-iron trusses. Mill appears to have been used originally by two companies, one concentrating on spinning, the other a manufacturing concern. Doublemill plan or the unusual mixed construction may result from this shared occupancy. Demolished.
