Established in 1826 on site in Dearne valley to serve linen-weaving industry of nearby Barnsley. Additions in late 1830s created plan, little altered by 1895, with principal buildings around courtyard, steam engine and boiler house at corner, and service buildings, including gas house, beyond. House adjacent; two reservoirs in surrounding grassland. Site closed 1907. Demolished.
