Built in 1873-4 as steam-powered mungo and extract mill. Buildings included two-storeyed office, warehouses and rag-sorting building, a rag-grinding shed, attached engine house, boiler house with drying floors, carbonising shed and dyehouse (demolished). Main shed divided into bays, each intended to house a rag-grinding machine. Carbonising sheds housed retorts, furnaces and carbonising chambers.
