Yorkshire > West Yorkshire > Soothill > Phoenix Mill
Small mill, reputedly built for machine making c1860, but by 1875 in use as a wool, rag, and shoddy, and mungo warehouse. Main building of three storeys and seven bays with internal engine and boiler houses, the latter with evidence for a perforated iron floor over to allow air to rise to a drying chamber. Form of building suggests conventional use as woollen mill rather than for engineering or storage purposes. Rag grinding housed in separate range with brick-arched ceiling over ground floor. Interesting example of small-scale mill with typical local association with recovered wool production. Demolished.
