Steam-powered worsted-spinning mill, built in 1832-4 by worsted manufacturers to supply their domestic weavers. In 1837 site comprised mill, adjoining earlier farmhouse, engine and boiler houses, mechanics' shop, wash house, warehouse and reservoir. Mill was of two storeys and seven bays, with internal end engine house. Integrated working achieved probably after 1850 with addition of small weaving shed. Destructive fire of 1905 caused rebuilding of much of mill and early warehouse.
