This was Haleys mill when I lived on Rufford St between 1965 and 1975. I was born opposite the old Holdworth mill situated on Silcoates street off Balne lane.. I lived opposite it from 1955 to 1965. Holdsworths mill had the famous slogan facing the main London railway line which read "Holdsworths, spinning a fine yarn for the world" it was lit up at night. It was Badly damaged in a fire around 1960, I remember it vividly as I looked out of our bedroom window. My mother gave cups of tea to the fireman and at one point we were to be evacuated. The tall chimney, the tallest in West Yorkshire, warped due to the heat from the fire and was reduced in size by nearly a half after the fire. I can still here the horn blasting first thing in the morning and watching all the mill girls rushing in so as not to be late. Happy memories.
